We live in a day and age where being different is finally looked at as “cool”. I remember in the 90’s when I’d turn on TV or the radio and every song or show seemed to be screaming at me to “fit in”. Buy this and you’ll feel cool, say this and you’ll sound cool, wear this and you’ll look cool. Granted, I grew up in the 90’s so it could’ve had to do with the fact that as an adolescent I naturally wanted to fit in.
But either way, now you’ve got powerful females like Emma Watson (side note: yes, I’m a major Harry Potter fan) and Jennifer Lawrence spreaking out on feminism and global gender equality. Forget the days when famous actresses were revered solely for their good looks. These women are here with powerful messages and strong voices. And then you’ve got one of my favorites Lena Dunham with her Lenny Letter dedicated to “dismantling the patriarchy”.
