“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” Maya Angelou had it spot on when she said this. I really try my best to treat everyone as kindly as possible. You never know what the people around you might be going through, what tough times they’re stuck in or weights they’re carrying on their shoulders. By remembering to be kind and thoughtful to not just friends and family but everyone, I feel like I can brighten people’s day and truly make a difference.
I think it’s important to remember that even the little things matter, like smiling when I pass a stranger on the street or letting someone merge in front of me in traffic. You don’t have to do something big and grand. Sometimes to spread happiness you just need to put yourself in other people’s shoes and treat them how you would want to be treated. As cheesy as that may sound, it’s something my mom told me growing up and these are words she lives by in her day to day life.
Everyone needs compassion and to be reminded that even in our hectic world, there are still genuine people out there. Sometimes I have trouble remembering this myself. I just think if we all make an active effort to do something nice for someone else every now and then, then the world would be a little bit happier of a place. And that’s good enough for me!
