Winter means it’s time to break out the cozy knit sweaters and throw on loads of layers. Even when I’m home snuggled up in my PJs, it feels more acceptable when it’s chilly out. Everything from flannels to slouchy beanies to turtlenecks and of course classic jeans makes me excited for winter. I’m not one to be that “into” fashion, meaning I prefer cozy classic pieces any day. But when it comes to the colder months, I’ll admit I definitely tend to put more effort into my appearance. Probably because it more appropriately reflects my daily look and laid back temperament.
When I was in high school, I was always the girl that dressed different from everyone else. I remember discovering Free People when I was 15 and I’d wear the most eclectic pieces they had with my flair leg jeans and curly hair sticking out all over the place. I definitely didn’t care what other people thought. I liked my own hippie, bohemian style which was totally not the norm back then especially in the suburbs of Atlanta.
Now, here we are 7 years later and oh how my style has changed. I still hold onto that total disregard for what other people think. But I’ve toned down the eccentricity of it and go more for a classic, casual look. I could wear the same t-shirt and boyfriend jeans with Converse every day and be happy about it.
It’s not that cold here in Hong Kong, so I can make do with a chunky sweater on the top and jeans on the bottom. As for shoes, I’m a big fan of ankle booties (I have like 4 different pairs) if I’m not wearing my go-to navy Chuck Taylor’s. And my boyfriend makes fun of me because I always wear sunglasses. Even when it’s cold outside and it’s not even sunny out.
