Minimalist Winter Basics

winter basics | Days Like Laura

Winter means it’s time to break out the cozy knit sweaters and throw on layers. Even when I’m home snuggled up in my PJs, it feels more acceptable when it’s chilly out. Everything from flannels to turtlenecks and of course classic jeans makes me excited for winter. I prefer cozy classic pieces any day, so here are a couple of winter basics I’m shopping.

I used to dress really bohemian, think Free People tops and dresses in all sorts of patterns. My style has changed tremendously in the past couple of years. I’ve toned down the eccentricity of it and go more for a classic, casual look. I could wear the same t-shirt and boyfriend jeans with Converse every day and be happy about it. These pieces are timeless.

It’s not that cold here in Hong Kong, so I can make do with a chunky sweater and jeans. As for shoes, I’m a big fan of boots if I’m not wearing my go-to Converse. And my boyfriend makes fun of me because I always wear sunglasses. Even when it’s cold outside or not that sunny out.

Here are 4 winter basics I love:

1 / Black turtleneck

A classic black turtleneck to wear with jeans, underneath a trench coat or a blazer.

2 / A trenchcoat

A trenchcoat in camel, black, or ivory is a must. I throw it over every outfit, be it a dress, leggings, or jeans. It’s great for keeping you warm, looks minimal, and will always be in style.

3 / Grey crewneck

I love mixing neutral colors. A grey crewneck is a great monochrome addition to your winter wardrobe.

4 / Flannel shirt

I’ve always loved flannels. So, I’m really grateful I’ve collected a fair few over the years. They get more comfortable with each passing year. Definitely one of my favorite wardrobe basics!
