State of Mind Sunday // Hawaiian Rainbow

hawaiian rainbow on my mind From top left // Once Wed / Wendy Laurel

Wow, I can’t get enough of these fun, tropical bridal portraits by Wendy Laurel. I was pouring over photos of Maui, dreaming of the blue skies, sunshine, and sand between my toes when I stumbled on this feature on the wedding blog Once Wed.  It’s such a cute & colorful modern take on wedding portraits, and perfectly suits the bride’s quirky taste. I really love the mixture of both old and new with throwbacks to the 60s and 70s mixed with geometric shapes and technicolor. I’m definitely channeling this Hawaiian style for summer.

I traveled to Hawaii once with my family when I was little. We island hopped from the Big Island to Oahu and finally to Maui for our annual summer vacay. I remember taking hula dance lessons, swimming in the crystal clear ocean, and being only an arms reach from the biggest sea turtles I’d ever seen. I remember having the time of my life and if I could I’d go back in a heartbeat. I want to see the island from a more local perspective, go hiking to waterfalls, pick fresh fruit from trees and flowers from the gardens, and discover hidden treasures. I’ve heard that it’s so easy to eat healthy and vegan in Hawaii too because there’s such a focus on natural and colorful meals inspired by nature.

All the signs are telling me to go! I’ve been dreaming of this trip for so long. I hope that one summer soon I’ll be able to make this dream come true. Maybe I can convince my boyfriend to go with me for our anniversary in February. Until then, I’ll be bringing a little piece of Hawaii to me by eating the rainbow, sipping on some fruit smoothies, and soaking up the sunshine as much as possible.
