In the light of the tragedy that happened this weekend in Paris, I want to take a moment to talk about gratitude. I recently read a really inspiring quote that said:
Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
I find that in the midst of everything that has happened the best we can do is spread love and light. I am grateful for my loved ones who love and support me unconditionally, for this planet we call earth, for the food I am lucky enough to be able to afford to eat, and for the place I call home.
I went to a breakfast club this morning in Hong Kong where we did a 30 minute meditation. It was my first time ever meditating and we were told to take deep breaths in and out, sitting there in complete stillness while we thought about the phrase “I am grateful”.
Normally, my mind wanders all over the place but in this moment I actually took the time to think about everything I’m grateful for. It really hit me hard that I am so lucky and blessed. I am healthy and active with a body that allows me to run and exercise every day. I had a happy childhood with parents who taught me to be humble and kind. I grew up with a close-knit group of really amazing girlfriends who always had my back and still do. I got an excellent education and traveled the world right out of college. I have a boyfriend who’s incredibly compassionate, goofy, and truly allows me to be myself.
I’m alive and I’m able to make my own choices each and every day. I choose to be grateful. I choose to be happy. I choose to be kind. I choose to spread love and to share it with everyone I meet. I choose to be the light.
