Chinese New Year

Kang Hei Fat Choi, meaning Happy Chinese New Year! The lunar new year started this past Thursday and lasts 15 days ending with the Lantern Festival. It’s a time to reunite with your family & friends for a big meal. We give out lai see packets for happiness & good luck and celebrate with red & gold decorations.

While I was in college, I studied abroad in Hong Kong for 8 months. I was lucky enough to have a truly authentic Chinese New Year experience there. I learned what these 8 vegetables mean for Chinese New Year. Food plays such a big part in Chinese culture and holiday traditions especially. This year, even though I’m in LA, I’m still sticking to the tradition of cleaning my slate for a fresh start. I’ll be going through my closet and doing a full closet cleanout. And, I’ll declutter my kitchen since all my food props have been adding up. I fully welcome the year of the sheep or goat. Based on the Chinese zodiac, the sheep symbolizes a year full of kindness, peace, and prosperity.

I hope everyone has plenty of love, happiness, and wealth in the coming year!
